Frequently Asked Questions

We are a taxidermy studio that specializes in museum-quality taxidermy of birds and mammals. We create commissions for museums, nature centers, and individuals. We also work on restoration projects. Our services are well-rounded and include all aspects of taxidermy: traditional mounts, restoration, consultations, and collaborative pieces. We do not work on anything that dies for taxidermy, only things that die from natural causes at aviaries, byproducts of depredation culling, etc.
We do not do pet taxidermy or memorial services. If you are interested in having pet work done, please look for a pet taxidermy specialist.

We are not offering any classes at this time. Please check out our Patreon page where we post instructional videos.
While we are starting out, we are not offering any type of mentorship. We are a small business just starting out, so our time is stretched very thin. Internships are time-intensive, difficult, and we typically ask that you have prior experience before learning here. If you are reaching out to taxidermists for learning opportunities, we recommend having at least 1-2 years of practice on your own time to show commitment to the practice of taxidermy (this can be done at your home; professional experience is not required). Unfortunately, we just can’t spare any time training anyone at the moment. If you are interested in learning from me in the future, I first ask that you invest in teaching yourself my methodology through my Patreon subscription and resources.

Strong Taxidermy only offers high-quality, meticulous work that is preserved at museum-quality. We carefully and thoughtfully source all animals that meet our ethical standards and do not die for the art. We do not buy animals in bulk from sources we cannot trust, and we follow all state and federal guidelines when sourcing for retail and commission pieces. In addition to our high standards for sourcing specimens, the standard for quality of work must be met with every single piece by professionals with years of experience. While we understand the work is not in everyone’s budget, we can guarantee that the quality of craftsmanship is unmatched on the market.

As we are a new and developing company, we are not offering any studio visits while we are still setting up and growing the business.

Please put it back (even better - don’t touch it and walk away!). You cannot possess any part of a protected dead bird (including feathers, nests, eggs, bones, etc.) unless you have the proper permits. You also cannot pick up any roadkill (mammals, bones, birds, etc.) in California without collecting permits, so please check your state laws for information on roadkill.
For more information on why birds are so heavily protected, please see the Fish and Wildlife website on the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It is a VERY important conservation law that protects our birds. It is also a federal law, so don’t mess around with breaking the law PLEASE. If you want to make sure you are buying legal specimens, download this spreadsheet of all protected birds in the US.

This term is complicated - ethical standards are personal. If you do not think any kind of taxidermy is ethical, then there is no such thing as an ethical taxidermist.
My own ethical standards are that I do not work on anything that died for the art of taxidermy. All of my specimens are “salvaged”: natural deaths at zoos, aviaries in the wild (collected with permits), rehabilitation centers, byproducts of depredation hunting, etc.
