Mammal Tanning Documents
This zip file contains two PDF documents that go over the mammal tanning process - everything you need to know to completely tan a mammal hide for taxidermy, soft mounts, or pelts! Turning a mammal hide into leather is the most crucial preservation process for mammal taxidermy. I have tanned everything from mice to mountain lions using the tanning process, and I highly recommend it - museum taxidermy requires precise preservation, and the mammal mounts that last decades all share one thing in common: the hide was leathered.
These documents contain both a detailed step-by-step guide with links to supplies and a shortened version of the document. In the detailed guide, I go over the entire tanning process, explain the reasoning behind each step, and give you different tanning options. The shortened document is meant to be used as a checklist - once you familiarize yourself with the process, this document will help you make sure you don’t miss any steps as you are working.
These two documents do not currently have any photos, so this is currently the lowest price I will have for you all on mammal tanning - I’ll be re-uploading these files once I have time to photograph the process and upload the photos to these documents.
